Is Bellafill Right for You?

Do you have some wrinkles you’d like to see gone? Many of us do! If so, Bellafill might be the answer for you. It is a product that was FDA-approved in 2006 for the treatment of nasolabial folds and has been used for other conditions such as wrinkles, lip augmentation, and acne scars.

Bellafill is a gel filler that has millions of synthetic microspheres (PMMA or polymethyl methacrylate) suspended in bovine collagen that has been purified. Lidocaine is an anesthetic that is included with Bellafill treatment that will reduce any discomfort that may occur.

A Bellafill injection is placed right underneath the wrinkle and causes the area to smooth out and adds a permanent support structure. It lasts a lot longer than other injectable fillers because the synthetic PMMA microspheres that are in it are non-resorbable, which means they are not absorbed or metabolized into the body. They stimulate the body to make its own collagen to encapsulate each microsphere. The result is 80 percent of the client’s collagen and 20 percent microspheres by volume to fill in a wrinkle, permanently.

Newly generated collagen is a replacement as the Bellafill is slowly absorbed in the course of a few weeks. The process is what causes Bellafill to offer results that are long-lasting.

Any gender and people of all ages can receive Bellafill treatment. It’s ideal if a client has already tried temporary fillers and they’re sure that they want a permanent result. Bellafill can’t be given to people with chronic skin infections or allergies to bovine collagen.

Approximately one month before treatment, the doctor will give you a skin allergy test for sensitivity to bovine collagen. The treatment with Bellafill usually only takes about 20 minutes, but two sessions might be needed for complete correction of wrinkles. The treatments are typically performed three to six weeks apart.
