Restylane® is an injectable gel filler which adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane® is also FDA approved for lip enhancement in patients 21 years of age and older, and can be used to treat marionette lines (the area from the corner of your mouth to your jaw line), and the corners of the mouth.
How Does Restylane® Work?
Our skin changes as we age. It becomes thinner, loses fat, and no longer looks as plump and smooth as it once did. Restylane® works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane® is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.
Are There Side Effects?
Side effects may include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 – 18 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.
Is Restylane® Right For Me?
Because only you know what look is right for you, it’s important to discuss treatment and expectations with your healthcare provider. During a consultation, he will determine if Restylane® is right for you, plus how much product is appropriate to enhance your look.
